Over the past year, Temperature Control (TC) mods have gone from a well-kept secret to mainstream devices. Some TC mods are still best suited for the knowledgeable tinkerer. But, there are several entry-level TC mods, which can take an intermediate user's vaping to the next level. SmokTek carries a selection of TC mods to suit both advanced and intermediate vapers. But first, let's look at how temperature control works.
When you set your TC mod to a temperature setting, you are telling your device to prevent the atomizer coil from going above that temperature. Your TC mod constantly monitors the coil's resistance, adjusting power output to keep it from going above your target setting. A TC mod can do this, because the metals used for this type of vaping have a predictable rise in temperature as their resistance changes. The most common metals used with TC mods are Nickel, Titanium, and Stainless Steel. Kanthal is not suited for TC vaping, because the metal's resistance value does not change. TC mods provide an accurate, consistent vaping experience.

Temperature Control: What is It?

Key Benefits
These key benefits have caused some vapers to call Temperature Control the Future of Vaping.
- Eliminates dry hits and burnt wicks - the horrific after-taste of a dry (or burnt) hit is something many of us are familiar with. Besides that awful taste, it burns your throat, and ruins your coil. It usually occurs when the wicking can't keep up with your e-liquid (especially when chain-vaping or sub-ohming), OR when the e-liquid level in your tank is too low
- Allows more control over how you vape - the metals used for TC vaping will all yield a slightly different vaping experience, allowing for quite a bit of customization. For example, many say Stainless Steel wire delivers cleaner flavor from your e-juice. Nickel (Ni200) and Titanium coils are popular because they help preserve battery life. But, if you like building your coils yourself, you may find you prefer Titanium, as it is easier to work with
- Won't overheat your e-liquid - although we know vaping is much safer than smoking, we still don't know the full extent of risk involved with overheated e-liquid. Vapers concerned with keeping their vaping as safe as possible choose TC mods: these devices only heat your e-liquid up to the point necessary to vaporize it, and not beyond
- Conserves battery life - your TC mod will only use enough power to keep your coil at your target temperature. It uses less power to do this compared to an equivalent regulated power (VV/VW) mod. *However, please note there are other factors affecting battery life, such as how much you vape, how low the resistance of your coil, and how high the power setting
