New Statistics Hint That E-Cigs Could Pave the Way to Quitting for Good
An article in Clapway goes over an interesting infographic recently compiled by Accelerated Nursing. The infographic shows several growing trends related to the use of electronic cigarettes.
The Accelerated Nursing infographic shows that out of 45 million cigarette smokers in the United States, 2.5 million are estimated to be vapers. Out of that pool of vapers, 62% said they have either cut back, or have been able to stop smoking cigarettes altogether. And, 34.3% of the same group say they not only quit smoking, but have also stopped vaping as well!

Airway test reveals e-cigarette vapor produces similar result as air
A recent study published in Toxicology in Vitro investigates the potential adverse effects of e-cigarette vapor on airway tissue, compared to cigarette smoke. The image on the left illustrates the viability of human airway cells during aerosol exposure (click to enlarge). Do the findings of this study point to e-cigarette vapor being as harmless as air?
The results show that cigarette smoke reduces cell viability to 12% (near complete cell death) after six hours. In contrast, neither of the e-cigarette aerosols showed any significant decrease in cell viability. Despite 6 hours of continuous exposure, the results were similar to those of control cells exposed to only air. Even with this aggressive exposure, the e-cigarette vapours did not reduce cell viability.

A Misguided FDA Crusade - The case for leaving cigarette flavorings alone
Eli Lehrer of The Weekly Standard takes a look at the potential aftermath of a ban on flavorings in both analog cigarettes and e-cigarettes.

But the preponderance of evidence indicates that banning menthol and other additives would have uncertain benefits and significant costs. A ban on flavorings for e-cigarettes might actually increase the number of people who smoke and discourage would-be vapers from quitting combustible cigarettes altogether..."

National committees have been set up to help smokers realize these dangers and quit smoking forever. The goal of the participants has been to stamp out smoking altogether and make the world a healthier place for those of us that choose not to smoke. That’s a commendable goal, but a difficult task.
However, nowadays smoking doesn’t actually have to be dangerous or unhealthy. The electronic cigarette, commonly known as the “e-cig” was developed by Hon Lik in 2003 to satisfy the need of smokers to inhale something into the lungs and get a similar relaxing feeling without the dangers of the 4,000 chemicals in traditional tobacco cigarette smoke.
